icy tree, snowy winter scene

November 18, 2025

Dear Greenwood families,

As we approach the winter weather that Wisconsin provides us, I wanted to take an opportunity to communicate plans for school closures due to inclement weather. First, I want to assure you that all decisions to close any or all parts of a school day are always made with the safety of our students and staff at the forefront of the decision making. Saying that, decisions regarding weather are very rarely simple decisions to make.

In the event of inclement weather, I would hope to make a decision before 6:00am. If the information received allows, a decision could be made the night prior. However, this is not always possible. The following are locations that you can view or receive the information of a school closure:

District: Local Media:

Facebook page and Website WAXX 104.5, WCCN 107.5, WPKG 92.7, WCCN AM 1370

SkyAlert Messaging TV Channels: WSAW 7, WAOW  9, WEAU 13, WQOW 18

Late starts, full day, and early releases are the three general types of emergency closures. Families should have a plan for each of these. Late starts are practical during times of dense fog and weather patterns that require only a couple extra hours for road crews to clear the roads for safe travel. Full day closures will be used when the weather or weather prediction is calling for dangerous travel/temperatures throughout the day. Unfortunately, sometimes these decisions are made and the weather pattern changes or the severity lightens. Lastly, early releases occur when students are at school and the emergency informs us that sending students home early is the safest option. Please make sure you think in advance and have a plan in place for all three of these scenarios.

Again, decisions to close school are not taken lightly. I know the impact that missing school can have on student learning and the inconvenience it can cause families. However, student and staff safety is my greatest concern and top priority. Although these decisions are not always popular, I can guarantee that they are made with the students’ best interests in mind.

I hope you are all having a great school year! The School District has many things to be thankful for and proud of and the relationship between home and school is one of them! I am honored to serve this great community and I look forward to our continued work together! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
